Is It Time To Remodel Your Basement?
If the laundry room is down in the dark dreary basement, you can make laundry a little more pleasant by remodeling the basement into a warm cozy family room with a great home theater system. There are many possible uses for that space in the basement besides just storing all those boxes. For example a recreation room for the kids and their friends to play in after school and on weekends. Adding a bedroom and bathroom for the child who is about to graduate high school and begin college soon. If they go to school locally this space will give them a place to go to where it is quiet to study for those tough classes.
When putting the plan together for this new room check around the basement for any water that may be getting in, and if there is a lot of dampness be sure to find out where it is coming from to make sure there is no mold or mildew already started and to prevent it from happening. Once the basement has passed this inspection then it is a good idea to finish the walls and lay new flooring that will withstand the main use of the new room. These additions will also give the room a warm cozy feeling of a part of the house instead of a cold damp storage space with a washer and dryer in it.
Create natural lighting by adding windows or a nice sliding glass door if possible. Have a deck or patio that the sliding glass doors open up to. If the renovations are planned properly it is possible to get more than one room out of this wide open space and still remain within budget. The possibilities are endless, so just start thinking about that dream room and your dream will come true in a newly renovated basement.
